Faculty Position in Transportation Engineering

 

FACULTY POSITION:  The Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Akron invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Transportation. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Department seeks applications from individuals with strong background and interest in transportation infrastructure design, maintenance, and operations, and construction management. Applicants with background and experience in development and application of advanced sensing and information technologies for transportation systems are particulary encouraged. An earned BS in civil engineering degree and a doctorate degree in transportation engineering or closely related discipline are required. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and supervise graduate students. Applications will be reviewed beginning October 15, 2003 and the search will continue until the position is filled.

The Department includes 13 full time faculty members, and the average annual sponsored research in the department is about $1.1 million in the past three years. It offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering areas spanning Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Design and Mechanics, Environmental Engineering and Transportation. The University of Akron is a state-assisted metropolitan university in northeast Ohio with approximately 23,000 students. The University has recently initiated an ambitious plan modernizing its physical campus to satisfy the demands of the incoming student body, and has also embarked on a program of enhancing its research level and activities commensurate with the level required for Doctoral Extensive Carnegie status while recently being recognized by the Carnegie Academy and the America Association for Higher Education (AAHE) as co-leader for one of Carnegie's Cluster in the teaching and learning arena.
